Sea Post King

Hello all!! Sorry for taking so darn long to get some new pics for ya! Chauntelle decided she wanted a telecaster type guitar with some obvious LaRose modifications Wink

The body wood once again is....well....The Holy Grail of tonewoods..White Limba!!

After going back and forth on top wood we finally decided on Quilted maple!! This top was chosen from my own personal stash of incredible woods! Man...that is one sick Top!!

[/img]

Well thats all for now...more pics to come.... Very Happy

Looks sweet! Do you paint/stain (?) the wood yourself?

Quilted maple... WANT.

I hereby vote that Mr. D'Agostino become Eisley's official luthier. Very Happy

well, i was excited until i saw that quilted maple… i just don't think you really build “my” kind of guitars… not that it matters… i guess…

it's going to be a thinline, right? or did you just feel like randomly drawing on an f-hole? single-coils, or humbuckers, or both, or neither, or what?

actually, and to go kind of completely off topic, i'm getting a new Telecaster too (my early birthday present to myself!):

okay, it's a Squier, but i'm $#@! broke, and it completely wiped me out! i'm still waiting for it to come from Musician's Friend (none of the stores near me had one, or pretty much any Telecasters apart from the standards [and they barely even had those!])… i've actually got the amp in the picture, too, which is sort of neat… sort of…

i've also discovered recently that i actually have a Telecaster fetish — you know The Bridges? well, ever since i realized that their guitar player is actually a Telecaster player (well, i think it's an ASAT, but that's close enough!) i've fallen hopelessly in love with her, and have been watching that video on near endless repeat! of course, that might be a very good reason for Chauntelle to not get a Telecaster (especially since they sort of look alike!)

this post is completely random, isn't it? well, it's 3:00 in the morning — what do you $#@! expect?

I love the look of quilted tops and other transparent colored finishes better than solid colored guitars. It'll be very unique looking for a Telecaster body.

Wow. They really want to be an Eisley/The Like hybrid, don't they? Confused

you think so? honestly, their video and promotional stills did kind of remind me of Eisley, but i don't think they really sound that much like them. i'd say it's something more like Fleetwood Mac meets Death Cab For Cutie, but as some beautiful southern girls — which, i guess, is how some people might describe Eisley, but not me (maybe 10 Cent Blues, or something, but that's it.) in fact, just listen to the guitar playing, for one (since this is a guitar thread!): almost no distortion, no effects (well, maybe reverb!), playing single-note lines, with a definite (if subtle) Telecaster twang, while both Eisley and The Like use tons of distortion and effects, use chords almost exclusively, and are completely twang-free (but that's just because they don't have the sense to listen to me!)

oh, and in my further attempt to turn this into the TDPRI, have any of you seen this? it's Bill Kirchen, the original guitarist for Comander Cody And His Lost Planet Airmen, doing his version of Hot Rod Lincoln, that shows you just what a Telecaster can do: Country Twang, Rockabilly Twang, Surf Twang, Spy Movie Twang, etc, not to mention Blues, Soul, Punk, Heavy Metal, car horns, tennis balls, etc! he's a $#@! Tele-God! i've seen a few other videos of him doing this, but this is the best one yet! how can you not want a Tele after seeing that? or a thousand?

edit:

i'd actually agree that transparent finishes look better than solid colors, it's just that really fancy figuring and stuff just always make the guitar look too… i don't know… fancy? that's not the right word, but i can't think of the right word! the only “figured” woods i go for are things like spalted maple or knotty pine or whatever, which aren't really figured anyways! but, yeah, i do love to be able to see the grain, so that it actually looks like something made out of wood, and not just polyurethane, or whatever!

Man, I thought I was watching the Telescope Eyes video for a minute! Razz I read about them a bit ago in Paste and they have a similar age span...and there's even four siblings and a cousin! Too bad nothing about their songs make me want to run out and pick up the music...or listen to it for more than a minute or two. A bit too typical/twangy for my tastes...

ABOUT THE GUITAR THOUGH! Very Happy It's looking good! I saw a LaRose Guitar in action not too long ago by another band and it looked and sounded awesome. Can't wait to see Chauntelle's finished.

Yeah, I was referring to look more than sound. They've got Chauntelle and Sherri doppelgangers, a male drummer, and they dress like the Like and have similar lyrical content and vocal range.

The instrumentation sounds literally identical to Eisley: same setup, same guitar tones, same general compositional style, same grooves, etc. If you played just the instrumental sections and labeled it as tidbits from a new Eisley song, you could probably convince half the forum it's real.

That being said, the voices are different (obviously).

Oh wow, and the way they look and just move is so similar to Eisley. Especially the Chauntelle clone, she sorta sways the same way.

they're nowhere near that similar! and the guitar tone is nothing like Eisley's, to my ears.

but, why are we talking about this? really? i mean, that Bill Kirchen clip i posted is way better! sheesh! why aren't we talking about how awesome he is? and how the Telecaster is the greatest guitar ever created? and stuff? i half want to post a huge list of YouTube videos from all the great Telecaster masters, but i'm too lazy… how about just the first? Jimmy Bryant!
