eisley has HARDLY toured with people who have common sounding music. NFG, TBS, Reggie& the Full Effect, the Myriad, and Brighten are just a few bands that eisley toured with and didn't sound like.

I think they meant that the bands they've toured with all have similar sounds not in relation to eisley (maybe...that's how I took it and see it).

Agreed. I think it'd be a great idea for them to tour with some female fronted bands. There're a ton of great ones out there (just like there're a ton a great male fronted bands). Just as long as they break the genre chain they've been supporting (for the most part (the exception being the myriad) I've enjoyed every opening act they've billed.)

I'd really like to see Eisley tour with Nicole Atkins. Lush instrumentation--check. Gorgeous fantasy imagery--check. Killer female vocals--check. I can't express how happy that pairing would make me.

Well, they're pretty tight with Luv Beat.

I think it helps that Weston is dating 1/3 of the band. Wink

When they don't have the control to choose, such as when Eisley is the supporting act, I wouldn't be surprised if they have been purposely scheduled as the only women-fronted band on the bill. There used to be some bullsh*t informal rule on radio that you can't play two women's songs back-to-back, and that kind of sexism still remains in the music biz.

i know it's a sort of a slippery-slope, the major label business. you want your bands to play with the kind of bands that will give them an audience, but at the same time, you want to have a good night of music. i guess if you get into a niche with the sort of bands you play with, it can be a bit scary, taking a risk in terms of playing live.

HOWEVER, you're never going to get new fans or new listeners if you play with the same kind of bands. i mean, i'd love to see a night of eisley opening with Kim Richey or Neko Case--artists who have strong followings, but they probably aren't the same audience as eisley's. (absurd? really, wasn't that the point about the whole NFG tour?) but at the same time, i could see where that might work because some fans might not go because they've never heard the music of those particular musicians.

i think the sticking with one kind of audience type hasn't helped eisley's audience grow. i'm not hating on anyone when i say that, so please don't take it that way.

Interesting!!

I know that back in the late 60s and 70s Bill Graham, ( From Bill Graham productions in San Francisco) who died some years ago) was the first band promoter that would pair bands of totally different styles together all the time. And it worked!!!! So many artists were exposed to fans of music that would of otherwise never of heard of them. I wish that that would be the norm. But the industry over the years has changed that. For better or worse I guess. Those from what I have read was an amazing time for music and music fans!!!! Could that work now????

Jason, What are your thoughts on this??? It would be interesting to hear what you would have to say on this!!!! Very Happy
Since I haven't a gosh darn clue really what the state of the industry is going to look like in say 5-10 years from now.

Pretty sure that is past tense, not present.

Definitely.

why is it past tense?

As soon as matters involving the band's personal lives is brought up, bad things happen. As interested as we may be about it, myself included, the band would like to keep such things private, and it is our duty to respect that.

I think you got the point by now.

Anywho, yeah, I've noticed that Eisley has always kinda stuck out from those they tour with too. Personally though, that doesn't bother me in the least. So long as Eisley continues to create great music and tour, I couldn't be happier.

Try the search function here, and if that doesn't work try google or Wikipedia. Usually 1 of those 3 things will turn up almost any gossip you ever want to hear (and some that you didn't).

I think pairing band with different sounds didn't always work back in the 60s and 70s. However, I think that today under the 'rock' umbrella there is almost a Greek city-state mentality among many fans. I mean that even if someone doesn't identify themselves as a 'metalhead' or 'indie kid', there are stereotypes that exist. So if Eisley opened for Slayer I'd expect most of the metalheads to say something like "This is gay!" Alternatively, if Mushroomhead opened for Eisley many of the Eisleans would think something like, "This is so stupid!"

Agreed! That would be beautiful and fun!! I love she & him

But their sounds are similiar (to an extent), so would that make much of a difference with the mixing of fanbases that people are talking about?
I know, from experience, when I go to see one band I expect the openers to sound similiar. Maybe things need to be shaken up a little....

well, someone already pmed me about it.
and i apologize for being so nosy, i didn't realize what it was about, and i understand that the band wants to keep their lives private, i totally respect that.

As far as female-fronted bands or artists, I'd like to see Eisley tour with:
-Rilo Kiley
-Joanna Newsom
-Nicole Atkins
-Lavender Diamond
-Regina Spektor
-Cat Power
-Neko Case
-The Submarines
-She & Him

orrrrr to mix things up a bit:
-Blonde Redhead
-Imogen Heap
-No Doubt
-The Breeders
-Juliette & The Licks
-M.I.A.

but those are all wishful thinking on my part. And I don't know how Eisley would fare with such high-energy bands as some of those last few.

I know I, personally, have always wanted Flyleaf to bring Eisley along on tour. 3/5 of the members are Eisley fans. But then again I'm probably the only one here that would want that tour to happen, hahaha. Oh well. An Eisley/A Fine Frenzy tour would be pretty cool, too... Wink

I agree with this.

I don't know how many people here are fans of Imogen Heap, but I for one would definitely go to that show in a heartbeat. It would also [hopefully] bring in tons of fans as Heap has fairly large shows.
