Uhm, so, I when and found the Tumblr ya'll spoke of. Turns out Owlrika has a pretty good song up there by my ears, and her previous band definitely sounds Eisley influenced. It ain't half bad  It will remind you all of Room Noises Era Eisley, that's for sure.
As for the first song: I would call it trance influenced, but this is what goes for hip hop in some circles in 2011, just like Rihanna's ironically Chris Brown's latest stuff. All sounds like Techno/ Electronica redux to me, but at least the kind I cared for (Trance & Jungle, some Breakbeat) And maybe it's me, but I see the former band's name Troubador, and it's a slant rhyme with Paramore, and since someone recently went from that band to singing a hook on a popular Hip Hop song my head is swimming in spurious ironies. Anyway, credit to them for having some good (common with me  ) influences listed on the band myspace.

I don't think anyone actually thought they were trying to be Eisley, and I don't think anyone was upset by the video. I was just scrambling for examples of non conventional fan-made art. The topic at hand is much more in the league of the show choir version of A Sight To Behold as far as that stuff goes. Kind of a realllllly broad comparison. I remember that video now... I wouldn't have remembered it from the description you gave for a really simple reason.: I've never been used to seeing Sherri with Blonde hair, and that was enough for me not to think the one singing her lines looked all that much like her. But yeah, I remember that thread (few are surprised I'm sure.)

That's actually a pretty good example. It got somewhat slammed mainly because it's so weird hearing their voices coming from other faces. Also because it might confuse potential new fans. I put a comment on it's Youtube that they were ripping off the Bridges and got a bunch of thumbs down or whatever thing youtube was using back then heh. _________________

But I figured that because they put in a disclaimer stating Quote: Zero consideration of the look, style, etc. of the actual band, Eisley, went in to this video. Any similarity between the Eisley and women in this video is purely coincidental. that the majority of the confusion was that the blonde woman looks vaguely like an early Combinations era Sherri. So in the context of the voices coming from other faces example makes a lot more sense. |

Whatever happens between Eisley and this rapper, frankly, is probably none of our business. As listeners, those legal implications and negotiations are for those within the business, not us. Our ears are turned towards what we consume. It'd be a shame if that insight were to taint our opinions of either musician. That being said, I actually found his use of Ambulance compelling. Ambulance's lyrics act as an emotional, creative lyrical counterpoint to his rap, and the music is undeniably good, being an Eisley song we all know and love. Lastly, opinions are opinions, and regardless of your personal beliefs and morals (especially those of us whose view of rap music is clouded by those beliefs), the right to expression is one that we all deserve. |

I listen to music that appeals to my artistic sensibilities, often involving technical ability that exceeds my own, passionate delivery I aspire to match, and/or lyrics I wish I wrote. I write songs that I would want to hear. And when I see an artist using another artist's work without credit, let alone any intent to do the legally and ethically right thing by paying for it, I take offense. I can't separate those two worlds. The idea that I should runs counter to your closing statement that we all deserve to express our opinion. My opinion was formed when I listened to the first two minutes of the song and heard that God-awful pitch-shifting on the sample that makes Stacy sound like Alvin and the Chipmunks. I don't listen to much rap because I find most of it incredibly abrasive with no other factors to balance that, and this was no exception. The "good"ness of the music you cite by virtue of it being "Ambulance" became null and void when they altered it to create something ridiculous and (for me) unlistenable. However, I can respect the fact that this guy can spit with the best of them. I wish he would have done it without Eisley in the background. None of that had anything to do with my considerations of the legal ramifications of sampling "Ambulance" without payment or credit. I was responding solely to the portion of owlrika's post that asserted OnCue and CJ Luzi are somehow doing a positive thing for Eisley by giving them "free exposure". When someone makes ridiculous claims like that, the legal implications become very important to me.
