Paul Reed Smith makes necks out of solid rosewood, right? it sure looks pretty, but i've always kind of wondered how that actually sounds…

OK...well then...thanks everyone for your comments...even though some I consider a little unresearched and inexperienced...but none the less they are amusing! So...I have been in my shop carving and sanding away at this new creation for Chauntelle....Rooting through my personal wood stash I came across a couple of pieces of wood that are gonna make this tele have a tone all it's own!!

The fingerboard and the head plate are very rare Brazilian Rosewood. These pieces happen to be some of the best I have ever seen!! No Lie!! Perfectly quartersawn and dark in color!! I wish you guys could smell the sweetness of this wood!

Heres a full shot!

If thats not enough I decided to use East Indian Rosewood for the neck!! One incredible quartersawn piece!! Very purple in color and has a real spicy aroma....but man it will help this tele chime like church bells!!

Well thats all for now...updates to come!! And please I love the comments!! [/img]

(Well, i figured out my question.) The beautiful rosewood neck is going to make the guitar sound different? How, kind sir? Smile

well, look, i'm not sure you can ever really know how a guitar will sound until it's all peiced together — but, for whatever it's worth, every Telecaster i've ever played or heard that was made out of these sorts of “exotic” woods has sounded like absolute $#@! (unless it had humbuckers, and then it just sounded like a Les Paul!) the problem is that they're too dense and too heavy, and on a Telecaster that leaves you an incredibly flat and harsh sound, which is also usually the opposite of what the person building it is looking for! i mean, they usually think “well, Gibson and PRS use these kinds of woods, and they sound fat, so it'll make my Telecaster sound fat!” wrong! just listen to George Harrison's all Rosewood Telecaster: to these ears it sounds dead as a door nail, and twice as sharp! all the real Telecaster guys know that the fattest sounding Telecasters are made from Pine…

not that this really has anything to do with the topic at hand! i don't have a damn clue what it'll sound like, and i'm willing to give Mr. LaRose the benefit of the doubt (and i'm still convinced it'll end up with humbuckers, so, again, it'll probably just sound like a Les Paul!)

i never said he didn't have any idea what his guitar will sound like, i said i didn't, and there's no way to really know until it's completed, anyways (and there isn't!) there's no reason for you to be so… i don't know… however you're being!

the way you felt attacked by johnip is almost the same way I'm sure you came off to the larose guys. it's hard to take "I'm sure they know what they're doing." right after you rip what they've been working on and do for a living.

sheesh! look, if i knew all of the specifications i'd probably have a pretty good idea of what it'd sound like, too — all i was saying is… okay, let me put it this way: Fender probably ships out thousands of “identical” Telecasters ever day, and absolutely none of them will sound alike! even with the best quality control possible, there are always things you just can't control, and the sound of any guitar is at least as much chance, fate, voodoo, or whatever, as it is design, craftsmanship, and so on. and, when the guitars you're building are one-of-a-kind designs, there's probably even more chance, because you can never be 100% certain how that unique combination of elements will work together until you've done it, even if you were the greatest luthier in the history of the universe! i mean, what i'm talking about has nothing to do with you at all, or whether you're good, or bad, or anything, it's just a basic fact of life when it comes to anyone building anything! sheesh! is that really such a horrible thing to say? because, that's all that i have said that you could possibly construe the way you have, unless you've really misunderstood something!

i didn't really feel "attacked", i just… i don't know… which is why i said that i dont know! because i don't! i guess i just felt like they really didn't understand what i was trying to say at all, and were holding what they thought i said against me…

and where did i “rip what they've been working on and do for a living?” huh?

I need to be rude here for a second, so excuse me: You need to chill out. And I'm not saying that just about this post in particular.
That's all I'm going to say on that matter, so don't bother responding to it.

On topic, I really like the look of that wood! Very beautiful, and I'm sure it will sound equally lovely. Very Happy

um, i'm actually pretty “chill” right now… if i were any more “chill” i'd probably fall asleep (actually, that sounds like a good idea…)

oh, and i don't actually think you were being rude at all — not even kinda, or sorta, or anything… although, if you have something to say to me, i'd much rather actually hear it, than just hear you allude to it, or whatever (you can PM if you like… or not…)

Stop arguing for the sake of arguing is what she's saying. That's all you do. Even though you're going to argue what I just said and deny everything. We get it. So shush.
